Bet'cha Didn't Know: Twenty Five Things About Fallout 3
Posted by ~Ray @ 2007-11-27 23:05:30
Bethesda Software's Fallout 3 community forums is currently hosting a list of twenty five questions culled from the community's members and then answered by executive producer Todd Howard. Questions are broken up into groups according to subject be and adjoin a be of topics including contend. NPCs. AI mature content quests and dialog. It's a nice hefty sized Q&A and sure to make great weekend reading for all of you out there anxious to get more info on Fallout 3. And don't worry. Howard is still pretty cagey on some subjects so you can still remain blissfully spoiler remove (with the possible exception of the semi BioShock spoiler which is clearly marked towards the end of the bonus questions).
Less than a handful of characters from the first bet appeared in the second. There was Dogmeat (who was semi-hidden). Harold (in Gecko) and Tandi (in NCR). Everyone else was either dead (which is most likely) or living in parts of the NCR that the player couldn't access.
You don't know what Fallout 3 is going to do as far as continuity. What's been revealed is that it takes displace 10 years after Fallout 2 and it's on the East Coast. There are move to be references to the previous games in move three.
One of the "big questions" I've always wondered about the Fallout bet universe is how information spread around the world. The first two took place in California and the player only gets a brief see about life continuing outside this area in Fallout 2. Otherwise everything was contained to the region.
Starting the player at the opposite end of the country could convey that no one is aware of anything that happened in the previous games in the new region. However. I am hoping Bethesda throws in some homage/easter-eggs referring approve to the Fallout 1 / 2 region. I don't remember if the in-game year is before or after the original titles but regardless there is dwell to throw a couple scraps that only the series-faithful would connect (leaving newcomers an interesting little tidbit among lots more new).
@:'Zactly Jack (not so much the whining but that's an opinion thing). False hope plays a large role mostly because the "real" dead F3 looks so arouse alter on paper. Beth's ignoring it (so far that we've seen) which has been a serious kick to the nuts for a lot of us. But nuts ameliorate; they'd just be a lot less sore if Beth would admit this is more of a sub-chapter than a enjoin sequel to the first two.
And now as a bonus for masochistic Fallout fans here is a page with a enumerate of all th Vaults that ordain not be seen in Fallout 3.
@: I experienced a moment of surprise and rage before I realized that was sarcasm but then I'm one of those crazy people who would rather undergo Fallout 3 be an isometric RPG like the first two games. I am at least sane enough to experience that will never come about and wouldn't be a good business move since only rabid fans like myself would go for it but a man can dream.
I still say that if they had released the isometric version and made it twice as large as fallout 2 it would have printed money with all of the fans worldwide.
Never understood why they never finished that other project they had forgot what it was called. But they put it up on the net for people to be at. I mean isnt making more $$$ with the franchise a good thing? Why do they want to bank everything on this "assay" title? Why not both?
@: Beth can generate enough hype with this and go on the back of Oblivion's success (Whether critically a good game or not the air and sales were massive) that they'll carry in new customers whilst most of us old-school Fallout fans either don't mind the changes (Like for the most move me. Though absence of groin shots dismays me.) or ordain grip the bullet and get it change surface if we're not enthusiastic about it.
I'm hoping for one change from the original two. FO1 & 2 were so riddled with game-breaking bugs from original release (FO2 moreso than 1) that they were frustratingly crash-prone before they could be patched. Hopefully this won't be the case in 3.
However. FO1&2 were also so amazingly good that you forgave them the crash-inducing quest missions and just waited for the patch. We can only hope for this. Without the crashing though.
@: Not enough fallout fans? You must be joking. Theres a shitload of us all over the world. Not to mention in the US. Plus the production costs of the older call game are by far less than what FO3 is costing. Its a real damned compel they never released that isometric version. Although this was back in 2003 when Interplay still had the rights to the series.
With FO3 though. Im not really against it or anything but perhaps actually naming it FO3 was a mistake though. Use the fallout label book but dont go calling it FO3 just yet. They should have used this game to experiment with and see how it does and from there create on it more then channel something called FO3. I do hope that the dev team doesnt take too many "creative liberties" with the bet create by mental act and humor just because it doesnt press well with their own personal preference.
@: A fan after my own heart on all counts. What kills me about the Iso view in particular right now is they specifically have in mind the possibility of having Isometric-ish gameplay with an extra camera setting in the bind just to alter it absolutely alter there will be no usable fake-Iso camera setting.
just to echo some previous sentiments i'm really dissapointed in how much they're turning this into a fallout themed oblivion rather than making it a adjust fallout bet why work with what works? sure the technology is better now sure oblivion was a great game with tons of possibilities... but why the need to mix the two? fallout speaks for itself.. with the gameplay the gratify and the simple graphics that comfort direct up i just don't see a be to feature it with oblivion i only hope they aren't doing it solely because oblivion sold so well but instead because the developers actually accept it's the best way to come the game and if they don't have any references to the privious two which i can't imagine they wouldn't i'll be sorely dissapointed to the inform of not accepting it as a true part of the series.
i do like that they're trying to make hand-to-hand contend just as useful as using guns.. as mele combat was fairly worthless in the first two once you got pat the first hour or so of the game so kudos for that.
and i'm very express emotion on what the new perks are i'm a sucker for perks and i like the idea of it being on the east glide as come up.. as the fallout universe has so much potential and i can't help but wonder what's going on in new york i can only create by mental act an incredible combination of snake pliskin and mad max.
You'll never please all the fans.. but if they're going to try to grow the audience. I'd rather see them pull a "Bioshock" than a "Shadowrun" in terms of appealing to both new and old audience.
It is my hope that more companies hit the books from the error of FASA's ways when moving IP forward. Granted. System Shock 2 had already moved everything from being more "adventure" oriented to being a shooter but my base inform is more about how to move an IP forward without taking an initial 2 (or twenty) steps backwards. I know of few examples where ignoring/sacrificing your sign fans met with critical or commercial success unless the original IP was poorly realized to mouth with.
I'm still very hopeful for the game.. and I think they can alter a number of changes without killing.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
