Re: add old wireless router as access point hard wired to main CPU ...

We recently had installation and while TV has been great we're more than dissapointed in internet. It's been one thing after other. Tech just came out again.. but it seems no one (in person or via phone tech supp) is very familiar with Macs! aarrg. Initial install was labeled as "express" should have been "Pro" we lose signal constantly decrease speed and hanging pages when able to access and now our phone service is also having problems... I'd desire to give it a come about if I can make my computer network viable desire it used to be before this headache... Due to wiring location problems the 2equip box is located in an off room location not accessible by wire in house. All tvs are hard wired via existing RG to main and we have been able to access RG/DHCP with our wireless connected laptops. We cannot however connect the main Macintosh CPU to be able to use the internet or to have access to the network printer that used to be connected by our old router/switch network that was dismantled to install uVerse. There is no ethernet wired to that area (nor the possibility of) and the USB wireless 2wire connector left by tech support doesn't work with Macintosh (att said it would...2wire says it doesn't!!) I would like to use one of the old wireless router/change by reversal I had as an find inform to extend the range to futher reaches of the accommodate currently not able to read a full wireless signal from the main 2wire box... BUT most importantly as a way to undergo the CPU connect to the internet by reading "wirelessly" the communicate from the 2wire. For example: 1) att inbound signal>2equip box>tv and wireless DHCP to networkComputer connections: a) laptops wireless via broadcast b) CPU wired to old wireless router as find point to enable find to wireless 2equip boxIt's a Netgear WGR614. Is this doable? If so can someone help with settings for the old router I'd like to use as access point? I'd be most appreciative of go by step for the settings if at all possible please... TIA!
I think you convey you want to use your other router as a bridge and not an access point. From what I understand you want to use the 2equip as the access point and use the netgear as a wireless adapter if you will. Is this what you be?I don't evaluate DD-WRT is an option here so I don't know if this is doable or not.
AT&T used to supply HPNA dongles before they had integrated HPNA on the STB. The dongles had 2 UTP ports on them. If you can get AT&T to install one in lie of an STB you can cerebrate your Mac to the second port provided it is in proximity to a TV...... just a thought.
I'm not sure that I am clear on what you are describing. Are you attempting to extend or get better wireless coverage in areas that the RG isn't getting to?If so then that isn't too hard. I used my old Linksys WRT54G as an additional WAP (Wireless Access Point) on the revised LAN. The affect would be VERY similar for a Netgear or most domiciliate wireless routers. After the lay techs had run Cat5 to all of my TV's. I put 5 port 10/100 switches on each (giving me additional hardwired connections at each location). This allowed me to connect my game consoles and other devices and act them off of wireless adapters. At the furthest run (to my downstairs bedroom) instead of a "dumb" change by reversal. I put my old (and about to be retired) wireless router/switch. Prior to connecting it. I went into it's configuration disabled its own DHCP service gave it a static IP on the RG's network changed it from "gateway" to "router" disabled the internal firewall and gave it the same SSID (but different channel) as the U-Verse RG. I then plugged the Cat5 into a LAN port (instead of its WAN port) and then plugged the STB. Xbox 360 into the other open LAN ports. Wireless security was then setup to duplicate the main RG. In my case open no encryption but a MAC allow list.
